1. HOFBURG PALACE
The Habsburgs, also known as the House of Austria, were one of Europe’s major royal families, ruling the Holy Roman Empire for 300 years. Their house was the sprawling Hofburg Palace, a collection of interconnected structures that is one of the must-see attractions in Vienna. Constructed in 1279 for defensive reasons, it was an ostentatious imperial palace. Admission to the Imperial Apartments and the Imperial Silver Collection is included in the admission charge.
2. AUSTRIAN NATIONAL LIBRARY
The Prunksaal, the Grand Hall in the heart of the Austrian National Library, is one of the most magnificent rooms in the world. The domed ceiling is rich in dramatic frescoes and towering pillars with carved marble reliefs – a bold show of imperial flair. Apart from being a magnificent display of Habsburg wealth and authority, it also houses Austria’s largest library. Unfortunately, books are not permitted, but it is still a fantastic activity to do in Vienna.
3. STEPHANDSOM
The Innere Stadt is Vienna’s, historic heart. The heart and spirit of the city, as well as many of the best sights, are here, surrounded by the Ringstraße, which marks the route of the old city walls. Stephenson – St Stephen’s Cathedral is at the top of the list and in the heart of the city. Its steeple rises above the rest of the central city, above a colorful tiled roof. Inside, it’s dark and gloomy, with slender columns exaggerating its height. The modern art installation ‘Ladder to Heaven’ was to the church in 2021.
4. INNERE STADT
It’s worth spending a few hours exploring the Innere Stadt streets that encircle the church. There are magnificent facades, narrow passageways, cute and quirky stores, and a plethora of hidden churches to explore. Visit Palais Kinsky, a spectacular baroque palace with a grand staircase and a stunning entry hall. The Ferstel Passage, a charming ancient shopping arcade, is also worth a visit.
5. COFFEE CULTURE
Viennese coffee shops are Some are away in narrow alleyways, while others tower on the corners of broad boulevards. If you’re in Vienna for two or three days, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to try a few.
Café Central – The interior of Cafe Central, housed in an imposing structure, is reminiscent of a Turkish palace, with a grand arched roof. Every day from 3.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., a piano performance. (except Tuesdays). Café Central is a popular attraction in Vienna, so lines can be lengthy.
6. SACHERTORTE, STRUDEL AND KAISERSCHMARRN
Sachertorte is the most popular dessert in Vienna. A thick chocolate cake with layers broken up by sweet apricot jam and topped with a chocolate glaze. It’s a popular treat in most Viennese restaurants, but Café Sacher claims to be the original. Kaiserschmarrn is another delicious treat to try. This sweet fluffy pancake is apart, caramelized, and served with powdered sugar and berry preserves. It’s delicious, and we had the finest at Demel.
7. SCHLOSS BELVEDERE
The Schloss Belvedere is one of the world’s best baroque palaces and a must-see on a two- or three-day trip to Vienna. Inside the ornate building, there are three museums to choose from, but paying a visit to the Upper Belvedere. It’s a significant collection of Habsburg art housed in the main palace in a mix of marble, frescoed, and stuccoed rooms. The first level features Viennese art from 1880 to 1914, including the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt pieces. There are also statues of Franz Xaver Messerschmidt that are expressive.
8. KARLSKIRCHE
Karlskirche, built in the 18th century after the great plague swept through Europe, is Vienna’s best Baroque church. Its copper-domed roof is what appears to be a Greek temple and is on either side by towering columns recalling Trajan’s in Rome. It’s one of Vienna’s best photo opportunities, as it’s free of nearby buildings and stands on the edge of a flower-filled Resselpark. Karlskirche is as one of Vienna’s most remarkable concert venues. Attending the Mozart & Vivaldi concerts performed on period instruments by the renowned Orchestra 1756 is one of the best methods to get a glimpse inside.
9. NASCHMARKT
The Vienna Naschmarkt, which has about 120 stalls, is a colourful culinary voyage through the flavours of Europe and the Middle East. There are coffee shops and wine shops, clothing and rug stores, and many fascinating little cafes for lunch. Saturday is the busiest day to visit, with more stalls open and a huge flea market in full swing. The pace is slower, but the ambiance is lively.
10. LEOPOLD MUSEUM
Few cities have as many museums as Vienna, and there are only so many you can see in two or three days, including the Leopold Museum. It follows the historic break between the conservative art of the nineteenth century and the avant-garde artists of the twentieth century and is to Secession Art (for which Viennese artists were the most important). The group was Gustav Klimt, but the museum delves, and Viennese.
