Data stolen from BriansClub

BriansClub is one of the largest online black market stores for buying and selling stolen credit card details. According to security intelligence firm Flashpoint, the website has an estimated $414 million worth of stolen cards for sale.

The site has been hacked a number of times. It first came to light in January 2015 when security researcher Brian Krebs reported the hack. He shared the data with several sources, including the financial industry. One of these sources, Allison Nixon, director of security research at Flashpoint, verified the data for Krebs.

Several underground black market sites that sell stolen credit card information exist. Some of these include Joker’s Stash, Trump’s Dumps, and BriansDump. However, it is the site that mimics the website of journalist and security reporter Brian Krebs that has become a victim of hackers.

Common signs of a carding attack

If you think you’ve been the victim of a carding attack, there are a number of common signs you should watch for. These include an increased number of web requests, a lower shopping cart size, and a higher rate of declined payments.

A carding attack is a cyber crime where criminals gain access to personal details of individuals, including credit and debit card numbers. The stolen information is then used for fraudulent purchases. It’s not uncommon for thieves to obtain enough personal information to commit serious identity theft.

Carding attacks are often conducted through automated methods. For example, hackers can use a botnet to verify payment information. They may also obtain a list of credit numbers that have been used in a recent purchase. In order to obtain these numbers, thieves hack into an ecommerce website’s shopping cart.

1.7 million card records for sale

BriansClub is one of the largest underground stores for buying stolen credit card data. It sells “dumps” – strings of ones and zeros, which can be used to purchase electronics and gift cards.

BriansClub has been operating for years. The site is named after security reporter Brian Krebs, who specializes in reporting on vulnerabilities in computer networks. He is a privacy advocate and security journalist.

As of December 2018, there were approximately 26 million cards listed on the BriansClub site. Of these, almost 30 percent are still unexpired. In addition, about 14 million of them have future expiration dates.

The cards were stolen from brick-and-mortar retailers and online sites in 2015. Security intelligence firm Flashpoint analyzed the database of the BriansClub site and found that it contained approximately $414 million worth of stolen credit card information.

87 million credit and debit cards are sold on dark sites

The Dark Web has a thriving market for stolen credit and debit cards. One particular dark site, BriansClub, has been in operation for years and has amassed a staggering amount of stolen card information.

BriansClub added a staggering 7.6 million card records to its database between January and August of this year. This comes on top of 1.7 million and 2.9 million card records the site gathered in the past two years.

Although the price of payment cards range from $1 to $12 in the U.S., the majority of them are sold for just $4. Most of the details were obtained by brute forcing, a computer generated process that enables hackers to access stolen data.

A massive dump of credit cards was released recently on an online cybercrime forum. It appears to be a promotional move for an underground payment card shop.
